Romanian mountain resort hosts Luge World Championships next week

Athletes from over 20 countries will come to Vatra Dornei, a mountain resort in Bucovina, North-Eastern Romania, to compete in the Luge World Championships on Natural Track.

The event, which is the most important winter sports event organized in Romania at senior level, will be organized on the city’s Bucovina slope, between February 2 and February 5.

Among the participants, there will be the world champions of the previous season, and athletes with outstanding results from countries such as Italy, Austria, Russia, Germany, Britain, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Ukraine, Poland, the U.S., Canada, and Turkey, reports local Monitorul de Suceava.

Romania’s team will be made of eight athletes, namely three girls and five boys. Their names are Anisoara Hutopila, Nicoleta Burlui, Petronela Ivan, Ciprian Tazlaoanu, Adrian Filimon, Bogdan Morosan, Mihai Coubis, and Denis Romeo Ciobaniuc.

The opening ceremony will take place on February 2, 18:00. The official training will take place in the first part of the second day, followed by the team competition, which will start at 12:30. The doubles contest is scheduled for February 4, 10:00, and will be followed by the first round of the women’s competition. The day will continue with the final of the team competition, and the first round of the men’s contest.

The event will end on Sunday with the women’s and men’s finals, and the award ceremony. The entry is free.
