Romanian consumers remain pessimistic

20 April 2018

Romanian consumers continued to show a “major lack of optimism” in the first quarter of this year, their expectations of the evolution of income and the propensity to buy being lower than in the previous quarter, according to market research company GfK.

Despite slightly higher economic expectations, the Romanians expectations on income went down by 2.6 points compared to the last quarter of 2017, to 4.1 points. The propensity to buy also went down by 2.5 points to -2.7 points, according to GfK.

Consumers in Romania are among the most pessimistic in Europe, alongside those in Spain and the UK, based on the propensity to buy indicator. The most pessimistic European consumers are, however, those in Greece.
