Romania ranks among lowest in Europe for number of cows
Romania has lost 1.9 million cows in the last 20 years, and those affected were mainly small, local producers.
The Netherlands, which has 4 million hectares of ploughable land – half Romania's – has a EUR 25 billion agricultural production in 2011, a third more than Romania's, according to data from Eurostat. One million people work in agriculture in the Netherlands, less than half the number in Romania.
