Romanian Govt. promises EUR 590 mln grants to local food producers under 4-year scheme

The Romanian government enacted on June 30, by emergency ordinance, the state aid scheme Investalim for implementing a multiannual national program (2023-2026) for the development and modernization of the food industry. The project aims to provide financial support and thus stimulate domestic production of food goods.

An estimated 140 projects in most food processing sectors worth over RON 2.5 bln (EUR 500,000) each will receive grants.

The European Commission will be notified within 20 days, and the government will endorse within 30 days the relevant procedures and criteria for the scheme.

The Investalim scheme will be implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development through the Agency for Rural Investment Financing (AFIR).

The maximum budget of the Investalim Programme for the period 2023 - 2026 is approximately EUR 590 mln, respectively EUR 148 mln annually.
