Romania expects EC's decision on EUR 30 mln supplementary aid for farmers by June 30

26 June 2023

The decision to approve the second financial package of about EUR 29.7 million for Romania will be taken by June 30, according to representatives of the working team of the European Commissioner for Trade and Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, Adevarul reported.

Representatives of the Alliance for Agriculture and Cooperation (AAC), Ion Olteanu, Vice-President of the Farmers' Force Association, and Florentin Bercu, Executive Director of (farmers' association) UNCSV, took part in a working meeting with the team of Valdis Dombrovskis, as well as representatives of DG Trade.

During discussions on grain imports from Ukraine, the Romanian delegation highlighted the problem of backdated documents, over-tonnage of trucks with goods from Ukraine, malfunctions of solidarity corridors, and change of destination of goods and documents regarding the quality of agricultural products.

The Romanian delegation requested, among other things, the approval and urgent granting of compensations from package 2 allocated to farmers, including Romanian farmers, affected by imports from Ukraine, the extension of the import ban for the four products from Ukraine (wheat, rapeseed, corn and sunflower) until June 14, 2024, and the extension of the list of products.
