The Romanian police are currently carrying out a project to acquire 35,000 bullet and stab proof vests, which will be used by the police officers who come in contact with the citizens and are exposed to dangers, reports local Mediafax. They will wear these vests under the uniform.

This kind of equipment is not a novelty for the Romanian law enforcement, being used by the officers of the departments Special Operations and Combating Organized Crime. However, following several attacks against police officers this year, the Romanian Police has decided to also equip the police officers with such protective vests.

Such a vest weighs about 3 kg and costs RON 1,100 (some EUR 240), according to representatives of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police.
