New GM named at helm of Romania's state owned railways operator CFR after expat resigns

The Romanian state – owned railways operator CFR appointed a new general manager, Romanian George Micu, a former manager of sister company CFR Marfa – Freight, after the Cypriot Dimitris Sophocleous resigned following the dismissal of his management plan by the company's board.

Micu joined CFR Marfa in 2009 and in 2010 he became a GM. The Transport Ministry is yet to inform how he was selected for the CFR general manager position .

CFR's new board is currently made of Sorin Mîndruţescu (CEO Oracle România), who replaced former board president Lucian Isar, George Micu, Jiru Enache, state secretary with the Public Finance Ministry, Peter Weiss former manager of Bancpost and RBS România, and Peter Raimund Kubinschi, executive vice-president of Nextebank. Sophocleous and Dan Sandu left the CFR board.

Naming Sophocleous at the helm of CFR was part of a wider program for appointing private managers to run state – owned companies, a program agreed with the international financial institutions.
