Jazz piano ace Hiromi Uehara to bring her trio to Bucharest

15 October 2012

Virtuoso jazz pianist Hiromi Uehara will be appearing with her group The Trio Project at Bucharest's Radio Hall this November. The young Japanese musician has firmly established herself on the international jazz scene since her debut album 'Another Mind' in 2003.

Previously, she has toured with the Stanley Clarke Band, as well as performing and recording extensively with her own group. Her repertoire includes many of her own contemporary jazz compositions, but she will happily throw in an old Gershwin tune, played with the freedom of expression and disregard of boundaries and genres that seem to characterize her work.

Her trio has been through several line up changes since her Berklee College of Music days and currently she is playing with bass player Anthony Jackson from New York and British drummer Simon Phillips under the Trio Project name. Both are veteran musicians with long pedigrees playing with many well known artists. Jackson has the more jazz background, having played with Chick Corea and Michel Petrucciani among others, as well as pop acts such as Tears for Fears and Paul Simon. Simon Phillips is more associated with rock music, having played with the likes of Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, The Who and Joe Satriani and his sound adds to the fusion feel to the trio.

Hiromi Uehara will perform with The Trio Project on November 10 at Bucharest's Radio Hall, starting at 20:00. Tickets cost from RON 135 first category to RON 75 third category and can be bought on eventim.ro.

Listen and watch the Trio Project below.
