Ten economic sectors in Romania concentrate 48% of the country’s total workforce, according to a study conducted by ICAP Romania, a company specialized in executive search services.

The retail trade, except for motor vehicles and motorcycles, is the sector that employs the most Romanians. The wholesale trade sector comes next, followed by the land transport sector.

The top ten also includes building constructions, food industry, clothing industry, manufacturing of motor vehicles, construction work, restaurants and other food service activities.

Several Romanians have lately migrated from sectors such as the manufacturing industry, agriculture, special constructions, and education.

These ten sectors have over 1.88 million employees, 2% more than in 2013, according to ICAP. The retail sector has over 400,000 employees, or almost 11% of Romania’s workforce.

Five companies make a third of the total turnover in this sector: OMV Petrom Marketing, Rompetrol Downstream, Kaufland Romania, Lukoil Romania, and Carrefour Romania.
