Group of illegal immigrants caught entering Romania

18 January 2016

A group of 60 men from Pakistan (41), Morocco (12), Somalia (5), Sudan and Iran (1 from each) were caught by the border police in Timis county, in western Romania, as they were trying to illegally enter the country, on Friday night.

They tried to get from Serbia to Romania on foot but were spotted by the border police thanks to the thermal vision system installed at the border.

Several patrols intervened and caught the men taking them to the border police station in Jimbolia to be processed. Then, they were taken to an immigration center in Arad.

The 60 men, aged 20 to 40, are now under investigation for illegally crossing the border into Romania. They said they had left their countries and crossed Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, and Serbia, aiming to get into the Schengen area to find work.
