German retailer Lidl opens new Bucharest unit

27 March 2015

German retailer Lidl will open next week a new store in Bucharest.

It is the first unit opened by Lidl this year, which brings the number of Lidl stores in Romania to 185. The new shop covers 1,200 sqm and has 130 parking lots, reports local Wall-street.ro.

Lidl, part of the Lidl & Schwarz German group, has over 3,800 employees in Romania.

Lidl is active in more than 26 countries across Europe, with 10,000 stores, over 100 logistics centers and 170,000 employees.

Last year, Lidl became the eighth largest importer in Romania. Lidl and the other large German retailer Kaufland, both part of the German group Schwarz Gruppe, are the only retailers that entered the top 100 importers.
