Former Romanian Justice Minister wants PM disbarred

14 January 2015

Romanian MEP and former Justice Minister Monica Macovei asked Ion Ilie-Iordăchescu, the dean of the Bucharest Bar, to exclude Prime Minister Victor Ponta from the Bucharest Bar, showing that giving up his PhD title would cancel the certificate which allowed Victor Ponta to enter the Bar without a law exam.

Macovei states that if Ponta wants to be a lawyer, he'll have to pass the exam, "like any other candidate."

"Ponta cannot give up the PhD title without losing the professor title, without being excluded from the legal profession and without returning the money earned through this intellectual theft, including through contracts with the state," Macovei added, cited by local Digi24.
