New GM appointed at Romanian state-owned airline Tarom

21 March 2019

Florin Susanu is the new general manager of state-owned airline Tarom, official sources told Hotnews.ro.

Transport minister Răzvan Cuc previously announced that a new GM would be appointed at the company’s board administration meeting this week.

At the meeting, initially scheduled to take place on March 22 but held on March 20, a new board of administration was elected. The board decided to replace Werner Wolff, whose mandate expires on March 21.

Werner Wolff, a former head of the BMW Timişoara-Arad, took over the job in November 2017. At the time, he was the fourth GM appointed in less than three months.

Susanu led Tarom before, as an interim GM in 2017, after the resignation of GM Eugen Davidoiu.

When announcing that a new GM would be appointed, minister Cuc said that, at his first mandate, between January and October 2017, Tarom had USD 80 million in its accounts, while now it only has USD 14 million.

“I had a talk with Mr. Wolff, who told me that there are fuel losses, everywhere. Everyone is to blame but him. I don’t have a problem, maybe he is right. But just as Mr. Tudose [e.n. former PM Mihai Tudose] supported Mr. Wolff and other members of the board of administration, now we go in, with people from the industry, to do what is right,” Cuc said, quoted by Hotnews.ro.

On March 20, the Chamber of Deputies approved the start of an investigation into the activity of Tarom between 2007 and 2018. Another check, of the PM’s supervision body, is also ongoing, with the aim of looking at sale of two Airbus A310 aircraft in 2018.

Tarom has a fleet of 25 aircraft. It operates flights to over 60 destinations, its own or in code sharing agreements.
