02 March 2015

Retailers in Romania that don’t issue fiscal receipts to customers will get fined, and tax authorities may even decide to suspend their activity starting March 1, 2015.

The fines will be between RON 10,000 (EUR 2,200) and RON 15,000 (EUR 3,300). Moreover, the authorities can also suspend the retailer’s activity for a period of one to three months, according to a Government Ordinance on reducing tax evasion, effective from Sunday, March 1.

“The economic operator’s working point will be sealed throughout the suspension period if inspectors find violations of the following legal obligations: endowment with fiscal electronic cash registers purchased from authorized distributors or certified units; using fiscal electronic cash registers; issuing tax receipt for all the goods and services delivered, as well as issuing receipts with a value that corresponds to reality; drawing up documents supporting the amounts entered / removed to / from the cash register,” reads a statement of the tax administration ANAF.

The Ministry of Finance has also launched a fiscal receipts lottery to encourage people to ask for the receipts when doing their shopping. The first draw of the lottery will be on Easter (April 13).
