European Cycling Tour along Danube reaches final leg in Romania

28 August 2012

This year's European Cycling Tour has reached Romania, with bikers having arrived in Bucharest last week-end (August 26 ) and on route to the Danube Delta, where the tour will end at the beginning of September.

The tour followed the course of the Danube since 2010, when it covered the Danube origins in Germany's Black Forest to Budapest track during the summer. In summer 2011, the tour went form Budapest to Vidin. This year, the last leg of the route was covered.

The tour was initiated by Ernst Piehl, former European Commission and European Parliament official, who was joined by bike by other former and current European officials.

The main objective of the European Bike Tours is to mobilize citizens and key actors in the unification process of the continent, in particular the mayors and their teams in European cities and municipalities, as well as the media at local and regional level.
