Employment rate of working-age population in Romania reaches 58.8%
In 2010, Romania had 9.96 million active people, of which 9.24 million people employed and 725,000 unemployed, according to the International Labour Office. Although down from last year, employees still have the largest share, of 65.6 percent. 30.1 percent of the total employed persons were working in agriculture, 28.7 percent, in industry and constructions, and 41.2 percent in the services sector.
The unemployment rate was of 7.3 percent, up from the previous year, according to the International Labor Office. Among men, the unemployment rate was with 1.4 percentage points higher than among women, reaching 7.9 percent, compared to 6.5 percent for women. Statistics also show that urban unemployment was of 9.1 percent, while the unemployment rate in rural areas was of 5 percent.
The long-term unemployment rate was of 2.5 percent, while on the youth segment, those aged between 15 and 24, it reached 13 percent.
