Simona joined the Romania Insider team in 2015, first working on our travel guide in English and, later, writing features and interviews for Romania-insider.com. She holds a BA in Romanian and English and an MA in American Studies from the University of Bucharest and started her journalism career in 2003.  Simona divides her time between her hometown Ploiești and Bucharest. While in Ploiești, she enjoys spending time with her family and taking long walks with the family dog. Romania will emerge from recession behind most other countries, as the crisis hit with a six-month delay, Prime Minister Emil Boc has said. The recession didn't affect Romania until the end of 2008, while most of the world economies were impacted earlier that year, Boc told a meeting with the Romanian community in New York.

Imagine there were a virus spreading across Europe that severely impeded young children’s intellectual and physical development. The disease was so debilitating that children afflicted by it could never hold responsible jobs or be productive members of society. They would have to be cared for by the state for life.

Rating agency Coface has left its sovereign rating on Romania unchanged at “B” in September, the lowest rating in central and eastern Europe, the agency said Wednesday. Romania and neighbor Bulgaria have been under "B" rating since June 2009.
