The number of newly-established companies with foreign capital increased by 12% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year reaching 3,951 units, according to the National Trade Registry’s Office (ONRC).

The new companies had a total share capital of over USD 34.1 million, up 14.4% year-on-year.

Some 449 new companies with foreign capital were established in August, up 13.6% year-on-year.

Romania recorded in 2016 the weakest year in the last 18 years in terms of newly established foreign capital companies. Little over 5,300 companies with foreign capital were set up last year. By comparison, over 5,800 companies with foreign capital were established in 2015.

A total of 213,765 companies with foreign shareholders were registered in Romania at the end of August and their total share capital was EUR 45.8 billion.
