City hall in Romania foreclosed by gas company for illegal tax
The city hall of Piatra Neamt, a city in north-eastern Romania, currently faces foreclosure by the gas company E.ON Romania for EUR 5.8 million, following a final ruling issued by the court.
E.ON challenged in court the “pole tax” the Piatra Neamt administration had established between 2006 and 2007, which brought it revenues of over EUR 5.8 million.
"The court decided that the ‘pole tax’ is illegal, and now the Treasury has to follow the decision," said deputy mayor Aurelia Simionica, cited by local Economica.net.
