Certified traditional products, down to less than 10% in Romania

19 December 2014

The number of traditional food products went down to 298, from about 4,500 last year, after changing the rules for certification and introducing the requirement that such products cannot be obtained industrially, said the Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin.

"Last year we had 4,500 certified traditional products and this year we only have 298. Why less? We set certain conditions that imposed limits. Until now there were products which were called traditional, as they were obtained after a traditional recipe, but they were produced industrially," said Constantin, cited by local Mediafax.

Traditional products are sought in particular on the domestic market, except for honey, which is also required for exports.
