Bucharest metro company to introduce one-trip tickets, annual subscriptions

08 August 2017

Metrorex, the state-owned company that runs the Bucharest subway, will introduce new travel cards, according to a draft ministry order of the Transport Ministry, cited by local News.ro.

The document introduces five new types of travel cards for the subway, namely the one-trip ticket that will cost RON 2.5, the annual subscription that will have a price of RON 720, the card for groups of three people – RON 5, the card for groups of four people – RON 6.5, and the card for groups of five people – RON 8.

However, the project keeps the current tariffs for the existing travel cards. Thus, a two-trip ticket will still cost RON 5, a ten-trip ticket will continue to have a price of RON 20, a monthly subscription with unlimited number of trips will cost RON 70, a weekly subscription with unlimited number of trips will still have the price of RON 25, and a one-day subscription will cost RON 8.

The project was put up for public debate on the Ministry of Transport’s website, and the deadline for proposals is August 19. It will come into force after its publication in the Official Gazette.
