Alternative RO: Romanian capital's Rahova neighbourhood deconstructed by Czech visual artist

29 May 2012

A novel installation by Czech artist David Mozny uses the grey blocks of the Rahova neighborhood in Bucharest will open on May 30 at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) in the Romanian capital. The visual artist and new media professor will present his project Rahova.exe_test for the first time in Bucharest. The presented project is based on artist’s research and records taken in Bucharest’s Rahova quarter. “The place is the epitome of urban utopia and its failure connected with the socialist past of the Central and Eastern European countries,” according to the Czech Cultural Center, one of the organizers.

The installation, which was specially designed for Bucharest MNAC Foto Anexa space, includes video, sound, lighting, objects and photographs.

The exhibition is organized by the Czech Centre Bucharest and can be seen until July 20, 2012.

David Mozny is a Czech visual artist and professor of new media at the Faculty of social sciences at Masaryk University in Brno. He also occasionally performs as a VJ. Mozny will also take part in a debate about urbanism and panel housing organized with the Zeppelin Association at the Czech Centre (Ion Ghica 11) the day after the opening - on Thursday, May 31 from 18,00.
