US Secretary of State accepts invitation to visit Romania in 2016

US Secretary of State John Kerry accepted the invitation of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lazar Comanescu to make an official visit to Bucharest next year.

The two officials met on December 2 at the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting.

Kerry said that Romania is a stability factor in the region and contributed to the anti-terrorism fight, together with the USA.

Comanescu said that the relation with the USA remained a pillar of Romania’s foreign policy and security.

The Romanian authorities are interested to see the consolidation of the US presence in Romania, Comanescu added. He also invited NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to make an official visit to Romania next year. Stoltenberg has accepted the invitation.
