Transylvania museum becomes member of European Rural History Organisation

The Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania has become a member of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO), an institution concerned to promote the study of all aspects of rural history in Europe and beyond.

EURHO membership is open to scientific institutions concerned with the furtherance of rural history and to individuals who attend the organisation's conferences.

“I congratulate on this occasion the manager and the entire team of the Transylvanian Ethnographic Museum for this success. There is undoubtedly a new, more than authorized, confirmation of professionalism, passion and dedication with which the museum team fulfills its noble mission," said Alin Tise, President of Cluj County Council.

The Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania operates under the authority of the Cluj County Council. It is the first institution in Romania to become a member of EURHO, along with other institutions and organizations such as universities, institutes and research centers, museums, academic societies, and historical archives from 14 countries, namely Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Hungary.

The admission of the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania to EURHO was made at the recommendation of the organisation’s regional representative for Eastern Europe, Prof. Zsuzsanna Varga from the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, according to the press release from Cluj County Council.

Founded in 1922, the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography is the first ethnographic museum in Romania. It is also the first Romanian museum founded on a scientific program, having as contributors great specialists of the time. Find more information here.
