Romanian food producer buys cannery in Spain

Scandia, the biggest producer of canned food in Romania, has bought the Thenaisie Provote cannery in Spain for EUR 2.8 million, local Magazinulprogresiv.ro reported.

The Spanish factory specializes in canning fish and seafood, according to alimarket.es.

“The Thenaisie Provote acquisition will help us strengthen our position on the local canned fish market and be present on other markets, as exports represent one of our group’s growth pillars,” said Andrei Ursulescu, Scandia general manager.

The cafroty is located in Mos y O Grove, in Galicia, and has a capacity of some 5,500 tons and 220 employees. The company exports to Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Norway, US, and other markets and had a turnover of EUR 29.8 million last year.

Scandia reached a turnover of over EUR 59 million in 2017, up by 13% over 2016.
