Romania’s Simona Halep falls to third in WTA ranking, gets Shot of the Month nomination

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep lost the second place in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world. She was surpassed by Germany’s Angelique Kerber, who won the Australian Open.

Chinese qualifier Zhang Shuai eliminated Simona Halep from the Australian Open in their first round match on Tuesday, January 19.  

American Serena Williams is still the best woman tennis player in the world, with 9,245 points, followed by Angelique Kerber with 5,700 points, and Simona Halep with 5,545 points.

However, the Romanian tennis player is one of WTA’s five nominations for Shot of the Month in January, for her shot in the Sydney tournament. The other four players are Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, Svetlana Kuznetsova, and Eugenie Bouchard.
