Romania’s Senate approved yesterday the emergency procedure for the unitary wage law draft.

The draft has been in public debate for several months, although the project was formally submitted to the Parliament only last week, said Social Democratic Party (PSD) senator Serban Nicolae, reports local Mediafax.

It is “a well-known legislative proposal,” Nicolae said. “I urge you to adopt the emergency procedure, which simplifies and speeds up procedures, as much of the public debate had been done. There is no point in unnecessarily prolonging such a debate before entering the (parliamentary) committees. Some of the measures would come into force on July 1, 2017," he added.

Opposition senator Florina Presada, who is a member of the Union to Save Romania (USR) party, said that the project should stay longer in the Parliament, at least under the normal procedure, to stir real debates around the project.
