09 January 2017

Romania’s justice minister Florin Iordache said on Friday at the Superior Council of Magistracy that it’s necessary to have a law on the magistrates’ liability, and it could get debated in the Parliament by February, reports local Digi24.

He spoke before the meeting for the election of a new Superior Council of Magistracy.

Iordache said that he would start informal talks with the representatives of the judicial system. The minister stated that it’s necessary to have a public consultation with all the parts involved in this issue, including the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the General Prosecutor, the Superior Council of Magistracy.

Mircea Aron, who has led the Superior Council of Magistracy in the last year, said on Friday that there would be attempts to transform the status of the magistrates, which don’t have to turn into humiliation. He said that the magistrate’s status should better remain the same.
