Romania's coal production drops, consumption increases

Romania’s coal production totaled 4.4 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) last year, down 4.5% compared to 2013. It represented 0.1% of the coal world production, according to oil company British Petroleum.

China registered the largest coal production in the world, with 1.8 billion toe, followed by the USA with 507.8 toe, reports local Capital.ro. In the European Union, coal production amounted to 151.4 million toe.

Romania’s coal consumption reached 5.8 million toe, up 0.3% compared to 2013 and it represented 0.1% of the world consumption. China recorded the highest consumption in the world - 1.9 billion toe.

Romania had coal reserves of 291 million tonnes at the end of last year.
