Romanian tennis player makes it to singles semifinals and doubles finals at Rio de Janeiro tournament

After Simona Halep’s qualification to the Dubai championship final, another Romanian tennis player has made it to the last legs of an important tennis competition. Irina-Camelia Begu, number 34 WTA, on Friday, February 20, advanced to the Rio de Janeiro championship semifinals in the singles, and to the finals in the doubles.

Begu beat Israeli’s Julia Glushko 6-1, 6-2 in an hour and 16 minutes. Together with her doubles partner Maria Irigoyen from Argentina, Begu made it to the Rio de Janeiro doubles final, which they won last year.

This year they will play against Ysaline Bonaventure/Rebecca Peterson (Belgium/Sweden). The doubles finals will take place on Saturday, February 21.
