Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta (in picture) will make an official visit to the US next week, he recently announced.

“The visit to the US was scheduled a while ago for next week, for October 23, but it’s true that this was questioned for a while because of the political crisis in Washington,” said Victor Ponta.

The visit will have a political and economic character and will also include discussions related to the projects Romania has with the US.

This comes at a time when American oil and gas company Chevron is lobbying for its shale gas exploration project, which is being opposed by environmentalists in Romania. More about the protests agains shale gas and fracking here.
