Romanian minister: Security measures at concerts to be strengthened

25 May 2017

The Romanian authorities will strengthen security measures at concerts, the interior minister Carmen Dan said yesterday in the Parliament.

The police will have a larger presence both in the public spaces where there are usually many people as well as in the means of transport, she explained. This applies to concerts too.

“Whenever there is an event involving a large audience, we supplement the number of police and gendarmes,” Dan said.

The minister made these statements a few days after the terrorist attack at a concert in Manchester, where 22 people lost their lives and 119 were wounded. Moreover, Britain has raised the security threat to the critical level, which means an attack is now imminent, British Prime Minister Theresa May announced on Tuesday.
