Romanian currency falls against the EUR and the USD

The Romanian currency leu (RON) depreciated against the European currency (EUR) on Monday, in the first trading day of 2015. Romania's National Bank (BNR) announced an official rate of RON 4.4973 per EUR, up 0.34% compared to the rate registered in the last session of last year, of RON 4.4821 per EUR.

The RON also fell against the American dollar (US) by 2.37% at a reference rate of RON 3.7742 per USD, compared to RON 3.6868 per USD in the previous session. This abrupt depreciation was caused by the euro’s decline against the American currency to a nine-year low.

The gold price per gram went up by RON 2.27 lei (1.6%) on Monday to RON 144.4, compared to RON 142.1 on December 31, 2014.
