18 September 2017

A 38-year-old Romanian climber died on Friday, September 15, after a 600-meter-long fall as he descended from Mont Blanc, reports local Agerpres. The Romanian had just escalated Mont Blanc in winter conditions.

A guide who saw the Romanian climber fall alerted the authorities about the incident. The consular authorities were later informed about the accident.

Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest in Europe west of Russia's Caucasus peaks. It rises 4,808 m above sea level.

Another Romanian climber died in 2014 on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, after climbing the Pointe Walker (4,208 meters).
