Romania asks EC for EUR 1 billion to finance irrigation infrastructure

16 March 2015

Romania wants to get EUR 1 billion from the European Commission (EC) to fund its main irrigation infrastructure through the Juncker program, said Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin.

Romania already received EUR 370 million to revamp the secondary irrigation infrastructure.

The Minister said that the Government will find out if it succeeded to get the financing in September or October, reports local Capital.ro.

2014 was the second year when the trade balance was positive for agricultural trade.

Romania’s main partner is the EU market, which account for over 60% of Romania’s exports.

In November last year, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced a EUR 300 billion plan that he hopes will boost investment without adding to public debt.

Romania has sent the European Commission a list of over 200 projects, worth EUR 62.5 billion, to be funded under the new investment plan, for 2015-2017.
