Key interest rate could reach 2% in Romania

The Romanian National Bank (BNR) could further cut the policy rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 2.25% on Wednesday, February 4.

The rate could go further down to 2% by the end of the year, according to an internal survey by the Association of Financial-Banking Analysts Romania (AAFBR).

Analysts expect the BNR to keep the minimum reserves in February at 10% for RON and 14% for foreign currency.

"Estimates for December show a possible policy rate of 2%. These range from a minimum of 1.5% to a maximum of 2.75%. The reserves could go further down during 2016 to 6% for RON and 8% for foreign currency," reads the press release, cited by local Mediafax.
