Unemployment rate goes up in Romania

The unemployment rate in Romania reached 3.27% in July 2020, up by 0.27 percentage points compared to the previous month, according to data released on Thursday by the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM).

The number of unemployed people registered at ANOFM went up by 23,272 compared to June, reaching almost 284,000, Agerpres reported.

Less than a third of the total number of unemployed persons (86,630) were receiving unemployment benefits. Most of the unemployed people were in the 40-49 age group (76,300), followed by the 50-55 age group (53,800).

The unemployment rate also increased significantly in Bucharest, from 1% in June to 1.29% in July, according to the local employment office. There were close to 15,300 unemployed people in Bucharest at the end of the month.
