Ericsson buys German company with two factories in Romania

Swedish group Ericsson, one of the world's largest providers of communications equipment and services, announced that it has agreed to buy German group Kathrein's division dedicated to producing antennas and filters for mobile telecom equipment, including the subsidiary in Romania, Profit.ro reported. With this move, Ericsson expands its expertise in 5G technology.

Established in 2000, Kathrein Romania is the largest local producer of mobile and TV antennas. One of its biggest production units, with an area of over 20,000 square meters, is located in Timisoara. In addition to Kathrein Romania, the German company also owns the Romkatel company, which sells the antennas and related services.

Internationally, Kathrein's antenna and filters division for mobile networks has approximately 4,000 employees with R&D, production and sales qualifications in Germany, Romania, USA, Mexico, China, and over 15 markets. Last year, the Romanian division reported revenues of about EUR 270 million, according to Kathrein.
