Coronavirus: Almost 1,400 new cases confirmed in Romania in 24 hours

Romanian officials confirmed 1,392 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, out of 25,363 tests, according to the official daily report released on Friday, August 21. Thus, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Romania went up to 76,355.

Separately from the new cases, 766 patients retested positive for the COVID-19 infection.  

More than 1.61 million tests were performed in Romania so far. A total of 25,363 tests were performed in the last 24 hours: 14,242 based on the medical protocol, and 11,121 upon request.

Over 34,500 patients were declared cured so far, and 8,991 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis.  

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 3,196, according to the same report. A total of 42 deaths were reported between August 20 (10:00) and August 21 (10:00), in the age categories of 30-39 years (one death), 40-49 years (2 deaths), 50-59 years (2 deaths), 60-69 years (13 deaths), and 70-79 years (8 deaths), and 80+ years (16 deaths). Thirty-eight of the patients had previous medical conditions.  

The number of COVID-19 patients treated in intensive care units was 497 on Friday, August 21. In total, more than 7,300 coronavirus patients are hospitalized.  

Almost 10,600 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 5,601 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 30,166 people are under quarantine at home, and 10 are in institutionalized quarantine.
