Bucharest Stock Exchange, included in international index along with major stock markets around the world

The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) has been included in the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index, which reflects the evolution of prices for listed stock exchanges and other trading venues. It includes 18 other stock exchange operators in the world, among which Deutsche Bourse, London Stock Exchange Group, NASDAQ OMX Group, NYSE Euronext and the Hong Kong stock exchange HKEX.

The German stock market operator Deutsche Bourse has the biggest capitalization of them all, USD 14.6 billion, followed by CME Group from US, with USD 14.25 billion. CME Group provides benchmark futures and options products. The Mexican Stock Market has the smallest capitalization, of USD 230 million, according to data from the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index website.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange listed its shares on its own regulated market in June this year (symbol BVB). Its shares were trading locally for RON 36.9 per share (November 9, 2010, end of trading), slightly lower than the peak in October, when it reached RON 40/share. The BVB market capitalization is of RON 283 million (EUR 66 million). The BVB posted a profit of RON 4.3 million (EUR 1 million) in the first half of the year.

FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index was created by the FTSE Group, which creates stock market indexes, and by Mondo Visione. FTSE is an independent company jointly owned by The Financial Times and the London Stock Exchange. Mondo Visione publishes the yearly “Handbook of World Stock, Derivative and Commodity Exchanges.”
