Former head of the Romanian Boxing Federation gets three years in prison

The Bucharest Court sentenced Rudel Obreja, the former head of the Romanian Boxing Federation, to three years in prison, in a case which also involves businessman and former media mogul Sorin Ovidiu Vintu.

Obreja was accused that he asked Vintu to pay him EUR 1 million, to intervene at the Supreme Court in favor of Romanian businessman Nicolae Popa, who had been charged with influence peddling. The sentence is not final, reports local Hotnews.ro.

Rudel Obreja was also indicted in another case for the illegal financing of a boxing gala that his firm organized. Former tourism minister Elena Udrea was also charged in this case.
