06 May 2015

US group ExxonMobil would like to expand from its oil and gas exploration in Romania’s Black Sea to the Bulgarian perimeter.

The company has entered the race for oil and gas exploration work in the Bulgarian Black Sea perimeters, said Stacey Weltmer, ExxonMobil director for exploration operations in Europe and the Caspian Region, reports local Mediafax.

Weltmer met several Bulgarian officials at the company’s central headquarters in Houston, Texas. The company wants to explore the Teres and Silistra perimeters in the Black Sea.

The deadline to submit offers is September 21, this year. The contract will be awarded for five years, with the possibility to extend it for another two years.

Delian Dimitrov, vice president of Bulgratransgaz, said that Bulgaria has already started building the interconnection gas pipelines with Romania, Serbia, Greece and Turkey.

In Romania, Exxon Mobil works with local OMV Petrom in exploring perimeters of Romania’s Black Sea sector. The two have already found some gas resources.
