Romanian retailer Dedeman buys 3.5ha site in Constanta for EUR 6 mln

29 November 2011

Romanian DIY retailer Dedeman has recently purchased a 3.5ha plot in Constanta for a planned new store, according to Colliers International’s Land Department, which brokered the deal. The retailer paid around EUR 6 million for the land. Dedeman has already started the construction work on the new store, which is scheduled for opening in early 2012.

The plot is located in the northern part of Constanta, near the TOM shopping center, where Bricostore and Carrefour also have retail units. “The area around the TOM center has all the necessary premises to become dominant in Constanta’s retail segment. Decathlon and Selgros already have stores in construction inside the complex, while Kika announced that it will start work on a new store, to be located on land purchased few years ago,” said Sinziana Oprea, advisor at Colliers International’s Land Division.

Dedeman, owned by Romanians Adrian and Dragos Paval, is based in Bacau. The retailer has approximately 4,700 employees. Dedeman operates in a market segment shared by retailers such as Praktiker, Bricostore, Mr. Bricolage, Hornbach, OBI and BauMax, among others.
