BAT brings another expat to manage its factory in Romania

18 May 2018

Cigarette producer British American Tobacco (BAT) appointed Michael Adamson as its new director of operations for Central and Southern Europe.

Adamson will thus manage the BAT factory in Ploiesti, Romania, the group’s second-biggest production unit in Europe, and will also coordinate the BAT factories in Serbia and Croatia.

He replaces Francisco Toso, who has managed the factory since 2015, who took on another assignment within the group, in South Africa.

Born in Northern Ireland, Michael Adamson has been working with BAT for 27 years, being involved in the group’s operations in Canada, Switzerland and Hungary. Before coming to Romania, he worked at the BAT headquarters in London as a member of the global production team responsible with the group’s technological strategy.

BAT has invested over EUR 310 million in the Ploiesti factory since 1997. The factory exports about 60% of its production to 45 countries.

BAT also changed its general manager for the Central and Southern Europe area in March, when Ram Addanki replace Gemma Web in this position.
