19 April 2017

More than 200 participants are expected to compete in Mures Marathon, the only whitewater paddling contest in Romania, which takes place this weekend.

The eighth edition of the event will be organized between April 21 and April 23 on Muresului Superior Valley, in the Mestera – Salard – Rastolita area, reports local Agerpres.

“Mures Marathon competition has already reached the eighth edition, being an amateur marathon contest for rafting, kayaking and canoeing, respectively slalom on whitewater. We have a technical part, namely the slalom, and an endurance one, namely the 24-km marathon,” said Madaras Balazs, one of the organizers.

“Fortunately, Mures Marathon is becoming increasingly popular. There were over 50 participants eight years ago, and the number has increased to over 200 this year,” he added.

The slalom competition will start on Saturday, 10:00, while the 24-km marathon will begin at 14:00 in Mestera village. The finish line will be in Rastolita commune.
