11 May 2015

Two Romanian students made it to the first stage of the Electrolux Design Lab 2015 competition. Their projects were among the 100 selected out of a total of 1,700 ideas submitted by competitors from 60 countries.

Adelina Ionela Tripon, a 22-year old student from Timisoara, passed to the first round with a solar charged air purifier. She called her concept YoYoAir, as it can be used as a YoYo toy while its charging. Her device can identify and eliminate odors.

Pavel Radulescu, a 19-year old art student in Bucharest, went into the competition with a device that facilitates testing various recipes and ingredient combinations using 3D printing. His culinary lab called Choose and Try uses 3D printing technology to create a sample of the recipe and offers information about the necessary steps to cook the respective dish.

The theme of this year’s Electrolux Design Lab is “Healthy Happy Kids”. The ideas submitted in the competition are centered on helping children grow in a way that enables and encourages them to become healthy, engaged and happy.

35 of the 100 projects that made it to the first round will make it to the semi-finals. Five projects will be selected based on public votes while Electrolux specialists will choose the other 30 projects. Voting is open on electroluxdesignlab.com. The semi-finalists will be announced on June 8.

Only 5 of the 35 semi-finalists will make it to the final, where a jury will select the winner who will get EUR 10,000 and a six months paid internship at Electrolux.

Electrolux is a Swedish appliance manufacturer with more than 50,000 employees worldwide. The group also has a factory in Satu Mare, in Northern Romania.
