Two days with many serious car accidents in Romania

09 October 2017

Several serious road accidents occurred in Romania over the weekend, in which five people lost their lives and many more were injured. Also, four people are currently missing after their car plunged into the Danube River.

A serious traffic accident involving four cars occurred on Sunday, October 8, in Ialomita county, the authorities activating the Red Plan for intervention. One person died in the crash on the DN 2 road, while 14 were injured.

Most of those injured were taken to hospitals in Bucharest while three of them were admitted to a hospital in Urziceni, the city closest to the accident, reports local News.ro. Only one of the victims is currently in a serious condition.

The accident involved a vehicle with 8+1 seats that entered on the opposite lane, hitting a car. The collision projected the vehicle into two other cars.

Also on Sunday, one person died and two others were seriously injured after a collision between a bus and a van. The accident occurred on the DN 2 (E 85) road in Vrancea county, the main cause being the failure to adapt the speed to the traffic conditions, namely rain. One of the two people injured seriously in the crash died later at the hospital.

The bus was carrying around 40 people at the time of the accident, but none of them was injured. The bus was going to Bucharest.

Yet another serious accident occurred on Saturday, October 7, when a passenger car carrying five people fell in the Danube River, in Caras-Severin county. Several teams of the Emergency Inspectorate, as well as divers, went to the scene immediately. However, they only managed to find and get the car out of the water the next day.

The car’s driver managed to get out safely, but the four other people who were supposed to be inside the car were not there when the rescuers took the vehicle out of the water, so the divers continued their search. They gave up on Sunday evening, leaving rescuers with boats to continue the search.

The driver was the one who told the police officers that a family of four is still trapped in the car. The investigation and searches continue in this case.

Also on Saturday, seven people were injured in a car accident on DN 1 road, in Ciolpani, after two cars collided. A child and a pregnant woman were among the victims. The wet road and the failure to adapt the speed to the weather conditions were once again the main causes of the accident.

The same day, two people died after the car they were in hit a bus that was carrying some 30 tourists from Canada. The accident took place on DN 13, at the exit from Brasov to Feldioara.
