Romania's nominated PM Razvan Ungureanu in consultations for new cabinet

The newly nominated Prime Minister Razvan Ungureanu (in picture) is currently in consultations with the Governing coalition leaders to form the new government in Romania.

Razvan Ungureanu intends to submit the list of proposed ministers for the future government on Tuesday evening ( February 7 ), according to the local media. The former Prime Minister Emil Boc, currently president of the Democrat Liberal Party (PDL), announced Tuesday that that the vote of confidence in the proposed government will be held on Thursday ( February 9 ), and coalition representatives are expected to nominate new ministers soon.

According to some political sources quoted by the Romanian media, Paul Andreea Vass - the former Prime Minister’s advisor, could be nominated to run the Ministry of Economy, Adrian Radulescu could be new Minister of Agriculture and Cristian Boureanu will be nominated for the Ministry of Communications. Former Prime Minister Emil Boc proposed the dismissal of all PDL ministers who were part of his government from the new cabinet.

Romanian president Traian Basescu announced the nomination of foreign intelligence chief Mihai Razvan Ungureanu as Prime Minister on Monday evening,  following Boc's resignation earlier on the same day ( February 6 ).

Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, a  44-year old diplomat, was Romania’s Foreign Affairs Minister between 2004 and 2007 and has been head of the country’s foreign intelligence agency since 2007. He has been a member of the opposition party National Liberal Party (PNL) since 2004, but left the party as membership was untenable with his position at the foreign intelligence agency. According to PNL leader Crin Antonescu, Ungureanu has not had any connection to his former party for years.  The PNL has announced that its members will vote against the new Government.
