Romanians pay more for food and fuel in November 2011 compared to previous year

Romania's retail turnover, excepting the trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, went up by 1.9 percent year-on-year in November 2011, but was down month-on-month, according to the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS). Growth in food sales - up 7.2 percent and in the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores – up 4.6 percent, triggered the increase.

Compared to the previous month, the retail business in Romania dropped by 1 percent in November 2011, due to decreases in the retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores – down 7.6 percent, and sales of food, beverages and tobacco – down 1.8 percent, according to INS. In gross numbers, the turnover for retail trade decreased by 2.3 percent compared to October 2011.
