About 1.75 million foreign tourists checked into Romanian hotels and guesthouses in the first nine months of this year, 18% more compared to the same period of last year.

They spent almost EUR 1 billion during this period, 17% more compared to last year, according to data released by Romania’s National Statistics Institute (INS).

The average sum tourists spent in Romania remained close to EUR 560.

More than half of the tourists (55%) came to Romania on business trips. Their spending represented close to 61% of the total.

Almost 45% travelled to Romania for personal reasons, with more than half of them coming for holidays.

Tourists spent most of their budgets on accommodation.
